THE GOLDEN TROUT

These North American fish have caused a great deal of interest in the UK where they are farmed by only Trafalgar Fisheries and one other.

Originating in the high altitudes of the northern Rocky Mountains of the United States, the Golden trout has been called the "Fish from Heaven" by the Americans. It is sandy golden in colour, truly distinctive and spectacular.

At Trafalgar, eggs are produced by the farm's own hatchery. As with the rest of the fish on the farm, the fry are grown in the extensive gravel ponds. Being so conspicuous, careful protection must be provided against herons.

A good eating fish, the golden trout looks more attractive to some than its Rainbow cousins. The flesh is a rich red colour and the texture is firmer.
