Trafalgar Fisheries has a great tradition in commercial fish farming in the UK, with over 30 years experience of trout production, making it among the earliest commercial farms in the country. Perfectly situated in meadows adjoining the river Avon, just south of Salisbury, it constitutes a major part of the famous Longford Estate(s).
Indeed all of the surrounding land is managed by the Longford Estates, in an area of outstanding natural beauty overlooked proudly by Longford Castle, the country seat and home of the Earl of Radnor, which has stood there since the 1500's and has borne witness to the Radnor families foundation and development of the fish farm and Estate from it's vantage point upriver.
The Trafalgar name itself dates back to an original gift from a grateful Nation to the heirs of Horatio Nelson following his death at the Battle of Trafalgar. The beautiful Trafalgar House overlooks the farm still and although in private ownership, it has often been the venue for classical and historical events.
Throughout the past 30 and more years Trafalgar Fisheries have proudly borne the name and have set standards of excellence in their supply of fresh trout to the British and International wholesale community. Although steeped in history, the farm uses the latest modern processing techniques to maintain a benchmark standard of hygiene and quality control. The fish are reared in natural conditions that give them the best opportunity to flourish, making sure of top quality output and meaning that, consequently, the farms have achieved the highest level of EFSIS (European Food Safety Inspection Service) accreditation possible.
All Trafalgar trout are reared to maturity amidst the clear fresh waters of the Hampshire Avon, which flows through a series of natural gravel ponds in an environment perfectly suited to trout farming. To further this ideal, the trout are stocked at low densities and the oxygen levels of the water are monitored continuously by a loyal and highly professional staff, many of whom have been with the business since it began almost 40 years ago. The marriage of their experience and a wonderful location which attracts a great number of birds and other wildlife, has seen Trafalgar maintain it's place at the forefront of trout farming with a commitment to environment protection and quality produce that will ever adapt to a constantly evolving marketplace.
